One Clear View of Every Recruit’s Field Training

The Field Training module runs your whole program in one view, DORs in minutes, every recruit’s progress at a glance

Why it Matters

Field training decides which recruits reach solo patrol, yet most agencies still run it on paper or a tool never built for it. The hard part isn’t the stack of DORs, it’s that no one can see, in one place, what each recruit has done and still needs, so training gets steered by guesswork.

The Field Training module within the Benchmark Management System® sets up in hours and runs your entire field training and evaluation program (FTEP) in one place: DORs finished in minutes, evaluations that stay complete and consistent, and a real-time view of where every recruit stands and what to train next.

What it Does

From the Daily Observation Report to the whole-program view, our Field Training module brings your entire program into one connected system. Finish DORs in minutes, see where every recruit stands, configure the program to how you train, and keep every record complete.

  • Real-time status for every trainee, phase and day, even one you’re seeing for the first time
  • Competency across skills, with a coaching-priority view of where they need work
  • Percent-complete across every officer in training (OIT), so decisions rest on the full picture

  • Call-type exposure tracking that shows what a trainee has and has not run (domestics, pursuits, DUIs, high-risk stops, and the rest), and surfaces the gaps
  • Steer each shift toward what the recruit is missing instead of leaving exposure to chance
  • Catch early when a trainee’s exposure is skewed, so training stays deliberate and well-rounded

  • Finish the DOR in minutes, not hours of after-shift overtime
  • Two ways to complete it: the traditional end-of-shift form, or log each call as it happens and let the system draft the DOR for you to review, edit, and score
  • Start a DOR on shift, save your draft, and finish it later, so work in progress is never lost
  • No re-tallying scores by hand weekly summaries and end-of-phase forms pull directly from the DORs

  • Change phases, skills, scoring scales, and workflow routing yourself, in hours, not on a vendor’s schedule
  • Selectable scoring scales (pass/fail, 1 to 4, 1 to 5, 1 to 7, meets/succeeds/below), set by an admin switch
  • Drag-and-drop routing of who completes, who verifies, and who signs, in your agency’s own order
  • Start from standard configurations we ship, like the San Jose model that shaped the modern FTEP, rather than a blank slate

  • Required fields that keep half-finished DORs from going through, with flagging and notifications when something needs attention
  • Multiple FTOs can review, contribute to, and digitally sign off on assessments across the program
  • Assign remedial training when a trainee needs extra reps, and track it to completion on the record

From Field Training Paperwork to Better-Prepared Officers

A field training program you can see is a program you can improve. Because every DOR is complete and every trainee’s progress is visible in one place, you move from reconstructing shifts after the fact to steering training in real time: FTOs spend their shift training instead of doing paperwork, coordinators know what each recruit still needs, and supervisors advance officers on the full record rather than a hunch.

This is the Outcomes Standard™ at work in field training, not just a digital DOR, but a program that puts better-prepared officers on the street.

FTO software runs the structured, on-the-job training an officer goes through after the academy, the field training and evaluation program (FTEP), typically 14 to 16 weeks across about four phases. It replaces paper DORs, checklists, and end-of-phase forms with one system that captures daily evaluations, tracks each trainee’s progress, and gives coordinators and supervisors a real-time view of where every recruit stands.

Yes. Field training rarely runs through one FTO. A recruit moves across phases and shifts, and different FTOs see different things. Benchmark lets every FTO assigned to a trainee review, contribute to, and digitally sign off on the same record, so the evaluation reflects the whole program rather than one person’s view, and a covering FTO can pick up exactly where the last one left off.

A standalone tool digitizes the form and stops there. Benchmark FTO is purpose-built for field training and connected to the officer’s record, so the training data becomes the start of an officer’s development history rather than dying in a binder. You also configure it yourself, in hours, instead of waiting on a vendor to make changes.

You are. When you log calls as they happen, the system can draft the report from what you entered, but it makes no judgment calls. It captures the information you put in, you score, you review, and you can override anything. Your typed narrative is never reworded, every entry is auditable, and the whole assist can be switched off if you want the traditional DOR only.

Yes. Phases, skills, scoring scales, and review workflow are all configurable to how your agency trains, and you make those changes yourself. You can start from a standard model like San Jose or build to your own program, without a vendor ticket for every adjustment.
